Getting Involved in Orphan Care: It Starts with Community, Part II
Hello again friends!
As you’ve been able to witness alongside us throughout the past year, God has been dazzling us with His grace as we prepare to bring our Judah home. I could tell story upon story of His many provisions. We really, truly lack for nothing. The only thing we absolutely need, is continued prayer for the preparations, the travel, the meeting, and the transition back home (a post on that to come soon!).We are feeling so much appreciation for the many who have expressed wanting to help in some way.
We know not everyone is able to welcome a child into their home forever, but there are lots of other ways to get involved. For example, you can financially support and sponsor children with medical needs, support organizations that focus on family support services, host a child for a season, advocate for waiting children, find a family in the middle of adoption and seek to find ways to support and love on them. There’s no contribution too small for the Lord to see and bless. So after some discussion and prayer, JB and I wanted to share one small, tangible way you can help.
In one of our update requests to Judah’s orphanage, we asked what needs they have that we could bring with us on our visit. They expressed needing more puzzles and building blocks. We were floored by how simple the request was, and I’m certain there must be more that they could use, but since this is what they asked for we plan to fulfill their wish.
So here’s where we invite those of you looking for a small way to help, to consider giving $2-5 towards fulfilling this wish for the precious children at the orphanage. Since we don’t want to bring along the items on our travels there, our guide in-country will take us to the local store to pick up these items, as well as some developmental toys and books. We will then bring them along our visit to the orphanage.
If you’re interested, you are welcome to send money via PayPal, Venmo, via mail or in-person. Please feel free to send me a message for our address if you’d like to send it that way. Otherwise, you can find me on Venmo or at paypal.me/kedelson.We will be collecting until October, 28, 2018.
Additionally, if you do have a heart for orphan care and want to know which ethical orphan care advocacy organizations are worth looking into, please feel free to reach out to us. Throughout the years that God has been working in our hearts to bring us to the place of adoption, He’s led us to several wonderful organizations. We’ve fallen in love with their missions and the ways they love sacrificially.
Lastly, just a side note because I think it’s important…. we highly recommend making sure you do your research before giving to any organization. Unfortunately, there are many unethical, or even ineffective, organizations out there. Utilizing Charity Navigator can be a helpful tool in identifying and evaluating organizations you are considering supporting. If you want to know more, please reach out to me, I’m more than happy to share!
With greatest appreciation and hearts full of love for YOU!
Joyfully in Christ,
